Tenkara is a form of Japanese fishing dating back to the ninth century. This event was hosted at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, NY. The presenter, Dr. Hisao Ishigaki, is the world authority on Tenkara. After his presentation (with a Japanese interpreter) we moved out to the stream for a demonstrations and to try the equipment. The equipment consists of a long (12'-15') rod, a line the length of the rod plus a little more, and a fly - no reel or guides! The fly is cast similar to a western fly cast.
